Real Christmas Tree Care
Fresh Christmas Trees Make Scents
* Make a fresh cut across the base of the tree. Cut off approximately one inch off the butt end and place the tree in a bucket of warm water.
* If you are not putting the tree up right away, store it in an unheated garage or in a place out of the wind and freezing temperatures.
* Once the tree is placed in the stand, be sure to keep the tree well watered with the level of water above the base of the tree. If the base dries out, resin will form over the cut end of the tree and it will not absorb water and will dry out quickly.
* Check all lights and cords for broken bulbs and frayed cords.
Miniture lights produce less heat and reduce the drying effect of the tree.
* Do not overload electrical circuits and be sure to turn lights off when leaving home or going to bed.
* If properly cared for, your real fresh tree should last for at least five weeks before drying out.
* Recycle your real tree after Christmas. Besides mulching, other recycling uses for Real Trees include wildlife habitat, improving fish beds, and restoring dunes.
